Early Treatment (Phase I) at Hoopes Orthodontics
We believe that early evaluation can set the stage for a lifetime of healthy, beautiful smiles. Phase I, or early orthodontic treatment, is designed for children who still have some baby teeth but show signs of developing bite or alignment issues. At Hoopes Orthodontics, we emphasize a conservative approach and only recommend early treatment when it’s truly necessary, ensuring your child receives care that’s appropriate and effective.
Why Early Treatment Matters
Early intervention can:
Create space for incoming permanent teeth
Correct harmful habits, like thumb-sucking or tongue-thrusting
Guide jaw growth and development
Reduce the complexity and duration of future treatment
Improve self-confidence by addressing visible alignment issues early
When to Consider a First Visit: We recommend that children have their first orthodontic evaluation around ages 7–8, when the jaw and teeth are developing but there is still time to guide growth if needed.. That said, it’s never too late—children older than this will still benefit from evaluation and treatment planning.
Treatment Options
-
Removable, nearly invisible trays designed for growing teeth
-
In some cases, traditional braces may be recommended to address more significant bite or alignment concerns
What to Expect
During Phase I, Dr. Tom Hoopes will evaluate your child’s growth, dental development, and bite alignment. Treatment is carefully timed to maximize results while minimizing discomfort. Once Phase I is complete, your child will be monitored until all permanent teeth are in place, at which point Phase II (if needed) can begin.
